Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a widely popular mission in India. Launched in 2014, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has been gaining immense traction over the past few years. Taking the mission a step further, the Government of India recently announced the launch of Swachh Survekshan 2023, an ambitious initiative that seeks to bring a paradigm shift in the way India deals with waste management. Curious to know more about the initiative? Read on to find out what you can expect!
Swachh Survekshan 2023 is a nationwide survey based on the outcomes of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a national cleanliness mission launched by the Government of India in 2014. This survey is conducted yearly to evaluate the level of cleanliness in cities and towns of India.
The survey is conducted every year by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and results in ranking different cities and towns in India for sanitation and cleanliness. This year, the survey has been revised with the top performers from each state identified as “Champions” and new indicators such as “proactive initiatives” and “behavioral change” added to the list of conditions being measured.
Here are some highlights of Swachh Survekshan 2023:
- Data Collection: Data has been collected through 31 different parameters, including direct observations, service-level data, feedback from citizens, and other survey assessment tools.
- Data Analysis: Under the program, cities are assessed on their efforts to sustain sanitation management practice, increased access to sanitation facilities, and adoption of improved waste management practices.
- Awards: The report was released on February 1, 2023, wherein awards and recognitions were given to cities demonstrating excellence in different categories.
Overall, Swachh Survekshan 2023 has so much to offer and it is expected to be an even bigger success than the previous two editions. We look forward to seeing what changes this survey brings and how it is able to improve the sanitation experience of our citizens. With the promise of Swachh Bharat that was announced in 2014, this survey is an important step in our journey towards a cleaner and healthier India.
