Discovering the depths of the oceans is no easy task, and visionary director James Cameron is one of the brave few to take the challenge and go down with his submarine. He is the only man in history to have taken a solo mission to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest spot in the world’s oceans.
On March 26th, 2012, Cameron departed from Papua New Guinea in his specially-designed submersible, the Deepsea Challenger, equipped with a variety of scientific monitoring and imaging devices. After living in the sub for eight hours, he finally made it to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, seven miles below the ocean’s surface. During his dive, James surveyed and studied the environment at the bottom, capturing multiple samples and high-definition footage.
